Default In the dark!

New to the site so I hope you guys are as good as the people on the motorcycle forum I frequent!

I have a '97 Dakota sport and within the last few days, I'm not sure exactly when, my headlights stopped working. The amber running lights come on, but no headlights. I checked fuses, and oddly enough, in the fuse box under the hood, the spot that is labeled "40 amp head lamp" (position 16) is empty?![&:] I removed one bulb and it appears good, I even used an ohm meter to check continuity and it seemed OK. I turned the lights on and checked for voltage at the headlight socket and got 0 volts. I tried putting a different 40 amp fuse in spot 16 and rechecked the voltage, still 0. I tried searching this but came up empty, any sugestions?? I am assuming there should be a fuse in spot 16 and I am at a loss as to where it might have gone. Is it common for people to steal fuses?

WOW!! You're the twelvth victim of stolen fuses!! Looks like the guy got you too huh? Ok, no... no ones stealing fuses (I HOPE!!!) [:-]

It could very well be a wiring problem, possibly a wiring connection problem... did you follow the wires and test faulty looking areas? That would be my next move. Or you could just buy a new truck!!! Actually, good luck and I hope you find the problem...

It was the fuse! I had tried taking a fuse from a different spot and using that one for the head lamps and it diddn't work. When I finally got to the autopart store and replaced the missing fuse the lights came on. I just can't imagine where the fuse went, I think someone is messing with me!

My guess is that it's your fuse.
