disconnect the battery, jack up the front of the truck. get under the truck. there's probably two wires, just take them off. then there's probably two bolts, take them off and pull out the starter. make sure not to let it smack you in the face when you get the last bolt off, it's heavy.
Ive never done one on a dakota but ive done them on other vehicles and they're all pretty much the same.

take the front left tire off, get a few wobble extensions or a u joint adapter woth a few regular extensions, 1/2 drive ratchet. i had to have mine towed to my old diesel shop at my votech back in high school, cause no way in hell was i doing it in my driveway with about 13 inches of snow on the ground.

Now might be a good time to buy that repair manual that you've been putting off getting.

it's not that hard, two bolts, 14-15 mm I think. Yank it out. Just kind of awkward and hard to jimmy out.

Yeah, what a pain in the ****! I tried with a wobble and a 6 inch extension and it would NOT come off!!! I tapped the bolts and sprayed them with penetrating spray and nothing! Why do they make this stuff sooo hard to pull!! Damn them!!
