Hey guys, I had a code pop up on my truck the other day so i ran it through the scanner. It told me i had an emissions system small leak. I reset it and it went away. every once in a while the truck has a choppy idle, once it even cut off. I also have been only getting around 17 mpg out of it, it's a 4.7 two wheel drive. I thought that seemed a little low. maybe it's all related some how. Any suggestions on what the code really means? thanks

 

What number code did you get? You can also check it in the 2nd gen by puting the key in the on position (don't start), turn off, on position (again don't start), off, then back to the on position (once again don't start) and the code should display in the mileage area for a couple of seconds.

I had something like that before and it ended up being a vapor leak in the vacuum line.

 

should of been the EVAP small leak code, with a decent aged truck, the seal on the gas cap fails, throwing the code.

 

Check the line from the throttle body to the purge sol,and around the test port{green cap} to see if their split.then underneath the truck at the canister you have three hose coming off of it{leftside frame rail near tank}.check the two big hoses for splits/cracks in them.use a lght and mirror to check the top of the hoses.they usually split at the canister connections.if ok ,possible gas cap or other lines leaking or the purge sol its self
