Default P0155 - 02 Sensor code vs Cat Back Duel Exh.

Ok....here's my question.

I recently had a new Magnaflow (single in, duel out) exhaust installed in my 2001 Dakota 4.7L.

A couple days after my check engine light came on. My first reaction was 02 Sensor before having the code checked at an auto parts store. And sure enough that's apparently what it is (P0155 - 02 sensor).

Do you think the 02 sensor went when I had the new exhaust installed? I'm thinking since there is less back pressure or maybe a little carbon broke loose and fouled the sensor (upper passenger side - Right bank)?

Your thoughts.

Thanks

sounds like it's bad you can try cleaning and reseting the codes. See what happens first.

I thought those things were too sensitive to clean? According to the manual, they don't even want you to get any anti-thread seeze on the sensor or it will wreck it?? And it actually says "Do not use cleaning solvents of any kind on the oxygen sensor"

Please enlighten me on how to clean. I'd rather save me a few bucks if I can clean it in.

On my 2001 Dakota 4.7L, do I have (3) or (4) sensors?

cleaning is something that you don't usally do, but I just used some carb cleaner on mine, and let it sit to dry. Only once dry you can plug it in.

Do you folks replace with a factory 02 Sensor part number? or can I go with an after market 02 sensor (say from NAPA (Bosch brand)). $47.00 (which I can get today) vs almost $95.00 (which I found on-line and would have to be shipped and is original equipt.) My local dealer wants $112.96 and they would have to order it (2 days min.)

Thanks for all the feedback and input. You folks are great.

if you're going to replace the plug, get an ngk plug, stay away from bosch, that brand hates our trucks.. and you can clean the sensors with electronic circuit board cleaner. you can get a can at napa, it's frowned upon but also a lot cheaper fix, but temporarily.
