So, I am set on this truck. After I ensure my job security I am going to put in an offer. First thing I do to vehicles when I buy them is oil change and air filter. I was going to go with a K & N Polished ALuminum Cold Air Intake. I was wondering if there was a better type of oil to use in these trucks instead of like Quakerstate or such.

I use Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30 high mileage or truck and suv whichever one they have at the time in the 5 quart jug at wal mart usually its not more than $40 whatever you do make sure you get a good filter mobil one or napa gold is what i would recommend, k&n oil filters are just the mobil one with a nut weld on the end and a $5 higher price tag

Alright so i took it for a test drive an dlove it. So now, it does need a power steering pump and the hose needs to be replaced. as above mentioned it has the 4.7L V8 and is a 4x4. Does anyone know approximately how much the pump an dhose would cost. I do all repairs myself so no labour costs. Also, it has a small exhaust leak before the muffler. Are these repairs a bitch to do. I have only worked on the 1990 V6 Dakota.

err... with those problems already Id get them to knock some serious cash off of the price. Who knows what is going to break next. I think a new power steering is about 500 brand new. Used probably get it for cheap from a auto wrecker. 50 bucks as for the exhaust get them to knock a nice bit off so you can use that and go an buy a custom one, knowing most people you will want one eventually, it's just so boring to drive other wise! lol.
Probably pay max 10k for the truck. And I would try changing the hoses out and purging the power steering for air. For all you know it just has some air bubbles in the steering. Fix that might be fine. But who knows. Get them to knock off for if someone else was going to fix it for you.

Wow 11-12K for it? Im looking basically the same truck: 03 SLT quad cab 4.7 4x4 with 85k miles for $7000. I would never pay that much for a truck that comes with a problem. Its been using for towing as well so be very careful. Dodge is not known for great transmissions and if its been used for towing, be careful. I would keep looking personally. Its a nice looking truck, but w/ a pump problem, a $12K asking price, and been used for towing.
Just my .02 cents.

It was used for towing. They towed a boat from Vancouver to here with it. I used to work for the mechanic who they had working on it as well so any problems i can ask him about. The truck is in mint condition otherwise. The owner and I test drove it and I took it out on the highway and pinned it and the transmission was smoother than my cousin's 2008 ford ranger. I will be fixing it myself as well as with my friend. The exhaust leak isn't a major problem and can wait a while but we get minus 40 degrees here in the winter so the power steering is a needed fix. A power steering pump is $123.18 CAD before taxes and the Hoses are $25.39 CAD before taxes. And I always do complete tune-ups with vehicles I buy so I would be doing air filter, oil, plugs belts, and checking all ym fluids anyways. So this would run upto the 300 dollar range total. I do not go al out on the first tune-up because i need to see it run for a few weeks first
Bpark:
You got to remember that I am in Canada and the asking price is 11,000 american. I was going to offer $11,000 CAD because I live in a truck market. A car does not work in my area.
I am being very wary though. My last two vehicles were lemons.
