Default Problem with the blinkers

2000 Dakota 4x4, V6. I have a problem with the blinkers on my truck. At first I thought it was a fuse, but the flashers still work. To make things even stranger, they will just start working for a while then stop. But when they do work, they will flash a few times, then stop. So I almost have to manually make them blink. They won't come on at all now. Is there a switch somewhere that could be shorting out? I don't really want to take the blinker switch apart if I don't have to. I thought there could be a relay for just blinkers, but having a separate relay for the flashers don't make any sense. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I think you are low on blinker fluid... try using some ATF+4 Blinker Softener.

na j/k.

Sounds like you have a short or a bad ground. Try running the wires back from the blinkers and see if any of the wires have been spliced or cut ect..

You may have a bad flasher unit. I don't think they don't cost much but I have heard the only place you can get the right one is the Dodge dealer. You could also have a bad multifunction switch. I would get a Haynes book or at least read one at the parts store and see whether it tells how to test the switch. If you need a new one it's probably about $45.00 at the dealer. That's what I paid for one for my 2001. I'd try the flasher first though.

Sounds like a bad flasher. I didn't have to get mine at the dealer if I recall. Think it was autozone or checker. And it was around $20.
