The summit air hat came with a paper filter, but I swapped it out for a K&N filter. The K&N kits were over $100 with shipping, so I bought the summit kit for about $17, and than the filter for about $50. With shipping I paid less than $80. The last time I checked, some of the summit branded stuff had gone up in price though. I think the summit kit is something like $26, I believe. Summit sells the kits that come with the K&N style filters for about $40, but I felt more comfortable going with something that I know I can trust to not let dirt get through.

I like the idea of putting all the fan bits into a box to protect them. Im gonna have to go look for a fan next time im at my junkyard...

Did you notice anything after doing it? Im not expecting anything major but does it run smoother or anything?

Sorry to hijack but got a question for you guys. Changed the oil in my moms 04 GC today(4.0 l6) I noticed that there is not CF just a EF. Would those work in our trucks also? Im currently not home so cant measure the fan to see if it would fit on our rads. It looked pretty skinny so I think it might work. Anyone know if they will work?

The box was cheap too, I only paid about $6 for it at Radio Shack. I bought the rubber grommets at Advance Auto. To mount everything in the box, I took a piece of 1/8" thick aluminum that I had laying around, cut it to size, and than mounted it to the bottom. Before I mounted it though, I took some liquid electrical tape, and sprayed several coats onto the aluminum to give some insulation. With the plate in the box, I drilled and tapped it to mount everything inside. The box has spacers molded into the bottom, so the plate doesn't sit flush. Because of this, I didn't have to worry about the mounting screws being too long. I know this may all seem like overkill, but I'm very **** when it comes to how things are done with the Dak.

I also ended up trimming the excess shroud off the fan, because it wouldn't fit any other way. With the washer fluid, and coolant being molded right into the Dakota factory shroud, I couldn't remove it, so I just fabbed up some brackets to mount the taurus fan behind the efan that is already there. Yes, I know that some are using the factory efan, but I'm very **** about keeping the truck cool because of the head gasket problems with the 360, so I went the overkill route. .

As far as performance, the only time I really notice a difference, is when I first driving away from the house, when the clutch fan would normally be locked in. I'm not sure if it has helped mileage.

Here's a couple pics of the fan with the shroud cut off, and the brackets that I made, before I painted them black.

About the Jeep fan, I don't know if it puts out enough CFM's. Maybe someone else can chime in on that one.

today was the first hot day here around 83 degrees. took a while for my efan to kick the temp back down. maybe i should look into a better efan or a 180t stat. or maybe coolant god knows how old that sh it is.

I know that I'm glad that I did it. Last year, My wife decided that she was going to enter a float in the fireman's carnaval parade for her office. Well, she decided to "volunteer" the services of myself, and the dak. It was one of the hottest days of the summer, and I was pulling an 18 ft trailer at about 2mph. The needle on the temp gauge was creeping past the center mark, and I was getting really nervous. I'm not sure why it was running that hot, but in preparation for the event, I replaced the fan clutch, the waterpump, and installed a 180 degree thermostat because I knew that the truck ran warmer than normal. Having the two speed fan makes me feel a lot better.
