Default Can you fix a caliper?

I don't notice any wobbling so i don't think my bearings are bad but my right front wheel doesn't like to spin when the truck is jacked up. I was wondering also what size allen wrench i need or hex nut to take the caliper off. My mileage has went down 2mpg and i pray its cause my dragging brakes lol. Any help would be nice.

just take the bolts that the calipers slide on off and grease them good then put the rubber boots back on and you should be good this fixed my dads truck when his brakes were dragging

i wouldnt use grease, ever. take emery cloth to the contact surfaces where the caliper meets the knuckle. use never sieze instead of grease. but make sure the piston in the caliper isnt what's causing the problem.

Default Cool.

Never even thought about that. Just gotta get the right wrench to take them off. I try to do any repairs myself that are possible with a 10.00 toolkit lol. Pepboys wants 281 to put one caliper on. I can buy one for about 52.00 and probably put it in easily. Lol to save me some time i might just have pepboys show me whats wrong then have my father in law come fix it with me.

eh, go under there and look yourself, only way you;re gonna learn, right? i think it's a 10 or an 11 mm internal hex head. go buy yourself a set of metric hex keys from sears, about $20, guaranteed for life.

Default To much to learn lol.

Lol just to see i jacked it up again and spun the tire now that things are quiet. I hear it scraping randomly like a warped rotor. If the rotor was warped slightly, wouldn't I feel it in the brake pedal?

yeah, still pull the tire and the caliper and check things out. if you hade a dial indicator, you could get your run out on the rotor to see if it's warped or not. could be slightly warped to where it possibly could give no feedback to the brake pedal.

Ya don't use grease and, you don't use never sieze. You use Sil-Glide.
It's water resistant and is made for just this job. Odds are you've warped the rotor
if in fact the brakes have been dragging. Do as said above with the emery cloth.
Check for galling on the piston and slides. Looks bad after you clean i all up,.. Break
down & spend the bucks for a new one.

i was referring to greasing the sliders that the calipers ride on under those rubber boots on the mounting bracket which is what caused my dads brakes to hang up and warp the rotors (yes he had to replace the rotors after this)

you can use never sieze. ive been told this by 2 different diesel technicians, both in which case were my instructors in high school and college.. so go figure. not trying to pick a fight with ya JB, just giving you a heads up. granted people have different methods as well but that's just personal preference.even using it on wheel studs is recommended, since shops like firestone or monro muffler and brake like to zip off the lug nuts and zip em back on with an impact gun pounding the snot out of them without using a torque wrench.
