i have a 98 dakota with the 318, heres the problem my engine temp doesnt go above 180 which is fine when its not to cold out like below 30 degree but when it is, well it sucks, the dealer ship says i am supposed to have a 5 blade fan but every fan i locate for my truck has nine blades like my current one, does anyone have any ideas

 

the fan their talking about is the clutch fan and it should be screwed onto a pulley on the serpantine belt its off the water pump. it should have 5 blades. there is also an electric fan on it as well depending on the year but that is right up against the radiator.

 

the 98s didnt have an electric fan and yes you have a 9 blade fan

it came with one from the factory

change your thermostat to 195 instead of the 180 you will notice a huge difference

 

Change out the thermostat to 195 deg. Do not get a $1.99 cheap pos, spring the big bux and get a SuperStat by Stant. There are also stats available that when they fail, they stick open instead of closed. Get one.
