Default Better shocks?

I have a 2001 CC, 3.9, 2wd and I put 4 new Monroe SensaTrac shocks on about 40,000 miles ago. Truck rides and handles OK but I really feel like it could be much smoother with a softer ride quality. I don't go off road or anything, its only a 2wd extended cab truck. I use Michelin LTX 235/75R15 tires which are still in excellent shape. All the bushings and suspension parts underneath are in good shape too. Alignment and tire air pressure are perfect also.

How long should I expect a set of shocks to last in normal driving? Is there a better shock I can get? I paid about $40.00 each for the SensaTrac's at Advance. What shock do you guys recommend that has a decent price?

As always, any help and suggestions here is greatly appreciated.

Jimmy

I have those shocks on the rear of my truck and stock mopars on the front and I wish my ride was stiffer. I've heard good things about edelbrocks and monroe reflexs for ride comfort both seem to get pretty good reviews. I'm sure others can chime in with more details.

Im not trying to be a *** or anything, but you are driving in a truck with out 4 link or strunts...

its not a Lexus or Cadi, its a truck, your ride comfort can only be so good in a truck, other then that..

if you want the best ride comfort get air bags, not the ones that drop the truck and make it dance and look gay, but air shocks/bags kinda like what the cadi's have.

But thats expensive... and out of the question probably..

i would say under normal driving conditions shocks should be good for well over 40k maybe like 70-80K i was on my stock ones for about 100k till i swapped them out for some Toxic Gas Shocks..

they are very rough, but have to use them since my truck is lowerd and i dont want it bottomed out on the smallest pot hole...

I want to get a set of offroad shocks for mine. I like the stiffer ride. I can get a set of Rough Country Nitro 9000 on ebay for $145 shipped. I had the RC 8000's on my Jeep and loved them. I just got my shocks done in the rear this summer and when i got the truck in the front a year and a half ago and since i'm supposed to be a broke college kid I can't replace them till they go bad.

when i airbag my truck im probably going with toxics

user, you're thinking of air struts, also called air-over shocks.

Thanks for the help. I might check into the Reflex'es I have heard here and a couple other boards they are a lot better than the SensaTrac's. I am paying even more attention to the ride now and I really think it could do better. It's not something I have to fix right away or anything, I can get a few more miles out of these while looking around for better ones. I have heard Rancho's are good too but I don't need to drop that kind of coin.

Thanks

Jimmy

hi - this is what i installed in the full size trucks i have had. i am planning to install a kit on my new Dakota. you run in enough air to run the back of the truck on air. systems go for around $250.

Sport-Rite air helper springs are the answer to most of your sport performance needs. These air springs mount between the frame and the suspension, utilizing a state of the art tapered air spring. Sport-Rite kits enhance the ride while loaded. The tapered style air spring will support up to *3000 lbs per set.

Ride-Rite air helper springs mount between the frame and the suspension. The heavy duty convoluted air springs will handle your leveling needs, side-to-side, and front-to-rear, with load carrying capacities between *3200-5000 lbs per set. Installation of many Ride-Rite ™ kits require no drilling.

both my truck and my dads truck have the monroe reflexes on them they are great shocks for daily driving and light hauling (we use his for hauling firewood) and mine were done at about 75k and his were replaced btwn 40 and 50k (the stock ones were finally gone at that point) he somehow managed to blow a stock shock in the front idk how that happened but. His old truck still had the origional sthocks on it at 120k when he sold it for his new one they shocks didnt go bad so he didnt replace them
