tranny, carrier bearing in the rear end, my water pump imploded at 80K, lifter tick, all steering/front end components (bushing, ball joints), those are all good things to check. not saying they all go bad, just good to check on a 100K+ Dak. you wont be disappointed in the 5.9, awesome little motor. lots to mod with if that's what your into, and even if your not, spend $1000 and get shorties, muffler (go hooker!), and a programmer, and you will be more than happy. just my .02.

BTW, where was a 4K 5.9 when i was buying a year and a half ago?!?!?!?! WTF? i cant help but feel a little bent over...

yeah, its because gas wasnt TOO bad when i bought so they were still pricey. then people started crappin theyre pants about gas, dumped theyre truck on the first sucker they could, and bought a prius. i hate people so much sometimes. seriously, gas hit 4.75+ here in chicago over the summer and every dealership was OVERFLOWING with traded in trucks and SUV's.

yeah bro i worked for a dealership over the summer and when the gas got bad, we honestly had a 6:1 ratio with suvs/trucks to cars. we would get cars and they would be gone within 1-3 days... it was crazy now is the time to buy trucks, because everyone is still scared about high gas prices they are willing to take a hit on their trucks.

You can go to www.dodge.com/en/owners/ And input the last 8 characters of your vin number. It will tell you if the owner of the truck had all recalls or safety work completed. In your case on the vehicle you're looking at, the Gear Shift Blocker safety notice has NOT been done. If you print out the letter from the website and then make an appointment, they will fix it for free. I had it completed a couple months ago after looking it up. I had just bought a 2001 Dakota.

Anyway, here's the content of the letter. But like I said, you'll have to print it out from the website. Don't know if the rest of you folks knew you could do this....if not, you may want to check out your vehicle.

SAFETY RECALL G28 – IGNITION/PARK SHIFT INTERLOCK
Dear: (Name)
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle
Safety Act.
Chrysler has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in some 2001 and 2002 model
year Dodge Ram Van/Wagon, Dakota and Durango vehicles and 2002 model year Dodge Ram Pick Up
Trucks equipped with a column mounted automatic transmission shift lever.
The problem is... The Ignition/Park interlock system on your vehicle (VIN: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) may
become inoperative. This can allow the shifter to be moved out of the “Park”
position with the ignition key removed (or in the “Lock” position). This can also
allow the ignition key to be removed when the shifter has not been placed in the
“Park” position. Either of these conditions could allow the vehicle to roll away and
cause a crash without warning.
What your dealer
will do...
Chrysler will repair your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor). To do this, your
dealer will replace the steering column gear shift blocker. The work will take about an
hour to complete. However, additional time may be necessary depending on service
schedules.
What you must
do to ensure your
safety...
Simply contact your dealer right away to schedule a service appointment. Ask the
dealer to hold the parts for your vehicle or to order them before your appointment.
Remember to bring this letter with you to your dealer.
If you need help... If you have questions or concerns which your dealer is unable to resolve, please contact
Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
Please help us update our records, by filling out the attached prepaid postcard, if any of the conditions listed
on the card apply to you or your vehicle.
If you have already experienced this condition and have paid to have it repaired, you may send your original
receipts and/or other adequate proof of payment to the following address for reimbursement: Chrysler P.O.
Box 4639 Oak Ridge, TN 37831, Attention: Reimbursement.
If your dealer fails or is unable to remedy this defect without charge and within a reasonable time, you may
submit a written complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New
Jersey Ave., S.E., Washington, DC 20590, or call the toll-free Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236
(TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov.
We're sorry for any inconvenience, but we are sincerely concerned about your safety. Thank you for your
attention to this important matter.
