engine compatability
Will a 4.0 ltr engine from my Jeep Grand Cherokee swap without mods to my 97 Dakota 3.9.
I was just hit head on this morning and my jeeps totaled. I was wondering if it would be worth swapping the engines.

you're gonna need to fab up some motor mounts...not sure the trannys gonna just bolt up, you may need to either have a bracket made or if you use the jeep tranny you will most likely need to fab a tranny crossmember
it wouldn't be easy swapping it into a 3.9 at least i think but if you had a dak with the 2.5 i would say it would be a lot easier motor mounts wise because the 2.5 is basically the 4.0 with two less cylinders, i've never heard anyone doing this though it would be neat to see...my sister said my old xj is acting up again so i gotta go over to her school tomorrow, about an hour from mine, to look at the old thing but i dont mind because i dont wanna see it go its got about 190k on it
thanks for the advice. I dont know if the insurance company is totalling it yet or not. The front end is gone. I just thought (hoping & praying) that it would be an easy swap. I figured the bell housing would be different for sure. Depending on the insurance, I might just part it out.
theres a 98 grand cherokee in our shop, kid blew the transmission out, 4.0 I6, 42re sitting right behind it. you're good to go, just a lot of minor custom work plus the engine harness. maybe able to hook up the engine harness to the chassis without much problem.

my 5 speed, is the same 5 speed mated to the 4.0 and fits with room to spare, even a larger automatic would fit,
sheetmetals easy though
