it would work, but i dont think you realize how much trouble you'd be getting yourself into. you'd have to change motor mounts, lose your whole computer system and change from EFI to carb. Then you'd have to change from an electronic trans to a hydraulic one, probably a torqueflite 727 or 904, you would also want to change to a rebuilt 8.75 rear. I know it can be done. Someone on another forum swapped a 400BB into a single cab 3.9 sport. Honestly though unless you have nearly unlimited funds or the know how to do every bit of the work yourself I would say just keep building your small block and rebuild the trans with a shift kit.

hmm sounds like a fun project? Maybe my next mod.. I think it would be cooler to have a 440, with EFI. Wonder if anyone makes them. Some power you would get... and an auto for me... 4x4ing... much better, but stick is good in some cases.

just looked up some stuff... Maybe my next project will be a viper v10, and it runs the same pattern as my truck, same block but two more cylinders and ONLY 4 inches longer... but 488 same bore... but maybe il get it bored, cam, heads, stroker man that would be a beauty... I need me one of these, and I bet it would even use a Similar computer... im sure I got 4"s of spare room in my engine bay and sure many do. But that won't happen until I get a new tranny, tcase and engine at the same time...

holley makes the commander stand alone TBI kit for it.

besides that, 440 parts are C-H-E-A-P. even assembled heads are less than 1k. stupid cheap. theres a few snags tho, steering, trans and tunnel, computer, headers, something still need to be able to control the doors, lights, brakes, all that fun stuff. IDK, i have to pay for spring semester tuition soon so i think im going to mull this over for a considerable time before i act. besides, its not like this is the ONLY 440 going to be sold in the next few months.

you might have to upgrade front end components to with the heavier engines the rams that had the V10 in them had their front ends eaten apart from the extra weight. a guy i know had one and sold it for a hemi because he kept having to get things in the front end replaced
