Default Heater question

I have a 2001 CC. The heat gets good and hot and there is plenty of air flow from it but when I have it set to blow out from the floor vents into the foot area, it still blows some air out the defroster vents and a little bit of air comes from the dash vents too. Anybody else have this happen on their truck? Were you able to fix it and if so, what did you do?

I get a little bit of air out the defroster when I run the AC too but I can live with that.

Dodge dealer said that's they way Dodge designed it for 2001. I'm not so sure I believe that. I live in West Florida so I don't use the heat much at all but when I do its annoying to have it blow all over the place like that. I closed off the dash vents but still it comes from the defroster and the heat hits me right in my face and I don't like it.

If anyone has any ideas, I appreciate the help.

they do leak a bit, but if it's that significant. the blend air door could be getting caught on something or the actuator is dying.

My 2001 did the exact same thing, it got annoying. So far tho, my 02 has been fine and works well. Not sure the cause of it, but none the less I had the same problem with my 01.

Well I can live with it I guess. I don't use the heat but just a few days out of the year. I'm not taking it apart and pulling the HVAC housing and all of that just for this minor problem. If the evap or heater core ever do spring a leak then I'll change out the actuators and blend doors at the same time to fix it then. I'm sorta-kinda looking for another Dakota now anyway. This one is still in great shape for 98,000 miles but it's getting a little long in the tooth.

Thanks for the help.

Jimmy
