Default Air Box Mods

I want to get some better air flow for my truck.i was thinkin about cutting the front part of the box off completey but leavin enough on in the front so the lid will still lock down. I race ATVs and i know that cuttin your box can help increase the air flow but i was wondering if anyone has tried this yet on their truck

I did it on mine but I have a 3.9 with a different style air box from your 5.2. It helped a lot, I think I am getting the same air flow as I would with a CAI. And all I use is a WIX/Napa Proselect paper air filter. I just have to change it more often because it gets dirty faster than in a sealed air box.

i haven't done it yet but im going to switch my CAI out for my stock air box and use PVC pipe to run some pipe from a fog lite i will remove into the box. kind of a ram air deal but mainly because that way the CAI isn't going to be sucking up all that hot air from the engine bay.

PVC, when it gets hot, releases chlorine, which isnt real good for your engine,
just go with a cold air kit, homemade or otherwise. the stock system after the box is still restrictive

If your crafty you can make it with PVC then have a custom shop bend you some 3" exhaust pipe. Or what ever size you need.

My friends and I have taken CAIs and added piping for cold air. Dont forget the heat shield tho.

i wanna just keep it simple. with the 5.2 there really isnt much room for change the air filter or good air flow. i think i might just try cutting the box and see where that goes.

i have a 5.2 also and took out the curved pipe that goes into the fender and went to lowes and bought a flex pipe and ran it from the air box and out the rubber flap next to the radiator...it worked well for me and did notice a good power gain from about 1500 rpms and up. cost me about 10 bucks for the hose, a clamp, and a collector
