Just from my own experience it was a horrible engine, but from reading what you guys say, it was probably just a lemon.
Well i have heard people going 100000 on an oil change which could cause that, i mean you never know what some one did.

Shrp that is because yours was a cc and your dads is a qc which weighs more.

even if you "can" go that far, it is just sad to hear about what people do to their vehicles... i mean they shouldn't be allowed to drive if they do that **** IMO

yes that ispossible, but we blame it more on the fact that his is 4x4, bc he said(i wasnt old enough to drive at that point) that his 96 reg cab 4x4 w/ the 3.9 was just as much of a dog as his current qc, hence the cab is not the biggest factor, its the xtra weight and friction added by the 4wd system(front axles, diff, driveshaft, tcase, ect)

at the end of the day you could also attribute this to rear gear ratio as well... i have no idea the specifics but it would surely make some sort of difference between two otherwise similar trucks.

nope same gear ratio and tranny, but this thread is supposed to be about the reliablity of these engines

and the 3.9/5.2/5.9 series engines are basically bulletproof, ya have to try and kill them, and even then it takes a while

the 5.9 isn't bullet proof, they had some head problems. but they may have fixed that in the newer engines. I havent heard of any broken ones on here... But some rebuilders have told me about.

my dads dak with the 3.9 is a little beast. That sucker is all kinds of dented, the fuel pump is bad, tires are loosing air, elec foul ups, and that thing will still burn out. I dont get how that thing still runs like it does, but i'm impressed with it enough to sell my Ram, give my dad the money (with a little in my pocket) and take his dak and start rebuilding it.
