1997 dakota transmission

Hi, I have a problem with my 1997 dodge dakota transmission ( 3,9L, automatic,pick up) he stays on second gear and sometimes he goes to the first gear and he doesn't want to shift anymore, but its only when he's hot..
Does someone know the problem?

if its overheating, more than likely youre going to need a rebuild. if anything id even suggest that. if anything it's internal.
