those are pre cats. you got 3 cats. california emissions requires 3, which i believe the federal emissions adopted as well on our trucks. my truck is originally built for jersey emissions.

lets start by telling us what engine you have. also, depending on where you live it all may be solved by few pieces of straight pipe
Thanks for the welcome and responses! My car mechanics is almost nil, can I figure it out if I had good instructions? Sure! Perk of being an IT geek is that I can pretty much figure stuff out with some manuals and the right tools, not to mention a good spot to work on the problem. See that this is my only vehicle and only have the weekend to be able to work on it, I pretty much don't do major work on it Not to mention I live in CT and its about 20-25 degrees out right now.

Anyway, got a 3.9L V6 4x4 Quad Cab. It was brand new when I bought it, mostly used for highway travel due to my job. So the replacement of the cats is done correctly, what should a reputable mechanic charge for this? He had said that the upper exhaust pipe should also be replaced when the cats re replaced. And yes O2s which I would figure as well.

Thanks for the info. Just for haha's I'm going to check with the dealer while I am there looking at cars to see what they would charge, I expect it will be more if they are going to do the same thing.

I live in CT as well and we can't get away with straigh pipes so you will need to replace the cat. I had a cat go bad on my old 3.9 but sold it that way for cheap.

Just wondering, what part of CT you from?

I just replaced mine on my truck a cpl of months ago I found all three cats on autoparts ware house for 375.00 and the shop I went to charged me 250.00 to install being the y pipe had to be modified slightly to get it to fit right ( they had to cut it twice to get the flanges to line up with the manifold and had to heat and bend slightly so the o2 sensor wasnt rubbing on the tranny.) Took them about 2.5-3 hrs to do.S about 625.00 total.
