Default 3.9L clutch fan

Hello all. Just joined this forum and looking forward to getting to know everyone. Been thru the stickies on budget upgrades for the 3.9. What I did'nt find was anything about removing the clutch fan. Will the stock electric fan keep the engine cool enough in the summer or should I get a performance after market one. Whats the deal with the electric one anyway? I think its only came on a dozen times for less than 30seconds. Only when I start the truck. Been a mopar man all my life. Iam currently restoring a 66 satellite as time and money permits. The wife drives a 2002 plain jane noen and my daughter drives a 2003 SXT noen. I drive a 2001 dakota. Any info on the fan deal would be greatly appreciared. Thanks

fan is for a/c if you're not on the highway. you can remove the fan but personally i wouldn't. if i were too, id put in a dual electric fans. few others around here have removed there's without problems but IMHO, i wouldn't attempt to create any. welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the reply. So if I lose the clutch fan and get dual electrics I would be good to go. My truck did not come with A/C thats why I was wondering about the electric fan. Ordered it new so I know its never been tampered with. Thanks Kelly

yeah im almost certain dual fans will suit you fine, you may even get way with just the one electric on there already. im not to sure. i know threeplaymaker has done this, let him give you a good response. if you want you can even search the forum for this mod.

I took my fan off and just run the stock electric fan, but I have the upgraded cooling system on mine and it's a 4.7. I know allot of guys w/diff motor sizes just go with an aftermarket elec fan and they never have any problems. Probably wasn't any help, but I tried

From my understanding removing the clutch fan doesnt really make that big of a difference. Maybe with other mods it is more noticeable. I also know you need to be carful with electric fans, they draw some serious juice from you system. Just be sure to check on the amp draw on the fan you get and that you post pics and keep us up to date

Welcome to DF, there is a lot of info on the 3.9 on here
