Default cleaning a block

ok so me and a buddy are going to make an engine block table. i got 305 chevy block for 20 bucks off of craigslist. its in bad shape but thats ok. i got a block, heads and rotating assembly. basically i was wondering what would be the best way to get this thing squeaky clean? sandblasting would leave it rough and nasty looking. and i dont thing engine degreaser would get all the gunk off. just for reference this is what we are going to try to make. it's going into my bar/darts/poker/billiards room.

you best bet would be to sand blast it IMO. my experience with sand blasting always left a nice clean surface. otherwise you will be sitting there for awhile with degreaser and a wire brush. simple green works best.
