Default 1998 Dodge Dakota Sport.....Problem with oil gauge...

Hello Everyone!!!!

I have a problem with my dodge dakota. After I drive it for a while, when I step on the brake, a light comes on. It says "check gauges" and the oil gauge goes from about 40 to 0 and back to normal. Does any body has this problem?

send me an e-mail

maria.g.o@hotmail.com

thanks,

Hi maria. Welcome to DF! I'm going to move this over to 2nd gen DAK for you. Hopefully they'll be able to help you out.

um... mine doesn't go all the way to zero, but it does go down quite a bit.... maybe you just have a loose wire somewhere... lets wait for others to chime in on this one.

possible causes could be a bad oil pressure sensor. also do you change your oil regularly?

oil change first, then check. could ber either the oil is so diluted, or theres a problem in the pump. the engine is dropping speed once you hit the brake, so the oil pressure drops too.

Seen this on a 2000 Durango. Oil level was low and on braking it "sloshed" enough to trigger the check gauges light and gauge to drop.

I assume when you start and the oil is "still cold and thick" it does not move enough to trigger the light on and gauge to drop. But as it warms up it moves enough during braking to give you this result.
