fog lights
I have a 2000 dodge dakota, i can't keep the fog light bulbs to quit burning out. They are on all the time when the truck is started, is this normal, or is there something wrong? any info would be appreciated, thx
Fogs should only be on when you pull the switch for them. But i drive with all 4 lights on at all times, when i remmeber to do so. Sounds like you have a short or something doing a current over-draw.
i run my fogs and turn parking lights whenever i drive my truck... first it looks sweet and second, well it looks sweet... basically check for a short or something because in 2 years of doing that, my fogs are still not burn't out yet...
thx for the reply's guy's, there is no switch for them, i have the rotery **** that turns on the park and headlights, but like i say when i start my truck up the fogs are on even though the haedlights are not turned on..... i am not saying they burn out instantly but usually last only bout a month or so, thought it may be caused because they were on all the time...

FYI, the light switch controls them. 10 o'clock is off, 12 o'clock is parking lamps, 2 o'clock is headlamps, pull **** out is fogs.
hmmmmm, ok, i'll check that out, thx!!

if your switch is not capable to push in/pull out, then your truck was not fogged factory. In which case, DRG85 would be correct, in that they've been plumbed to an ignition hot wire. Should be at least 12 guage stranded copper wire running from the lamps to the battery- anything smaller will cause an overheating or undervolting issue. If i was to wire in a lamp like that, i would use a 20 amp/12 volt relay, use the igition to run the coil, and use 10 guage stranded copper wire to go from b+ to relay to lamps.
If you have a 12 volt rated analog or digital volt meter, check voltage at both lamp sockets. then check at the bettery terminals. Lamps that are undervolted, will draw extra amperers to meet their wttage rating. more amps = more heat = more resistance = dead bulb.
or something down that road.
