Default tranny shift problem...

Hey all. New to this site. I have a weird problem for all the knowledgeable fellers here:

I have a 99 dak 5.2l v8 w/ approx 150,000 miles on it. Good engine, still strong, but When I put it in drive "D" it only gives me 2 gear and up. when I drop it in 2nd gear "2" I get first gear only. But all shifting is strong and smooth. It has a Check engine light on all the time so I dont know if this problem set a code or not. Fluid levels are normal. If any of you have heard of this problem, please explain it to me. Thanks in advance.

so i have the same issue two weeks ago and my lock up torque converter solinoid was bad. The code your engine is prob throwing can only be read by chrysler or a tranny shop. once you've lost drive it wont take long for the rest of it to go.

Thanks for the move to my humble gen 2 section.

This could be something simple as the shift cable needing to be adjusted or column shifter needing to be adjusted.

The column shifter adjuster is under the steering column, a little white plastic adjuster you turn to adjust.

The Shift Cable Adjuster is on the driver side by the wheel well it looks like a black wire that goes into a cone back into a black wire to the tranny.. very easy to adjust.

if none of that works, get the tranny read by someone that can do it, and have it fixed asap, if your going to have it overhauled you might as well invest in a shiftkit from transgo. The basic kit fixes a lot of problems known in these trannys.

Thats easy and only works on certain models..

why read up on it, when you can explain it in one sentence.

Turn the ignition off and on 3 times fast, without starting the motor and the codes will pop up in the odometer box.
