Default 318 bolt ons...

Hi guys, I am new to the site and was hoping for some insight for my 99' 318 dakota. as of right now it is pretty much stock other than a cold air kit (installed myself) and muffler back exhaust (was on it when I bought it).
Well Id like to get alot more power out of my truck. I do know stock they make 235hp roughly and Im looking to get about 350hp out of it but still be reliable enough to be my daily driver. What upgrades would get me up to that hp range? Right now Im looking at getting a true dual exhaust system for it, possibly a mild cam, programmer and a tranny tune to put it to the ground. how close would that get me and what other mods should I be looking at? Thanks, mark

thats a big jump to ask of a mouse.

true dual + headers
oversized throttle body
intake
maybe bigger injectors?
superchips
shift kit
maybe heads?

headers and thats about it... i mean obviously if you have no budget you can get to 350 but you are pretty much on the right track with the exhaust, intake, cams, programmer, and then a tranny upgrade, although it won't make your engine have more power, it will be able to put it down better and utilize the power that you are already making... other than what was already mentioned, nos, supercharger, stroker kit, and just built internals...

Cheers and welcome to the forum...

also use the search button at the top of the page and take a look at what some other people have done to their trucks, its a great way to get some ideas...

LOL... 350hp out of a 318 with bolt ons wont happen.... i have every bolt on possible on my truck, besides heads/cam but those are not simple "bolt-ons" and i have a 5.9 360ci stock with 250hp/345tq

My mods are listed below, all the mods i have you can get for the 5.2 also, im right at about 300rwhp right now, WITHOUT heads/cam/tune/blower.

with the heads/cam and blower and a bad *** tune from Hemifever im hoping for somthing close to 600rwhp.

I have right now:
4bbl M-1 Intake Manifold
52mm Holley Billet TB
1.7HS RRs
Pro Comp Air Cleaner
Mopar Perf. PCM (better then the superchip/hypertec stuff) (replacing soon with SCT)
MSD6a Ignition
Mopar Cermic Coated PPH Headers
3" Single Side Exit Exhuast
High Flow Cat
Single Chamber Spin Tech Muffler
Deleted Clutch Fan
Autolite 3923s
rebuilt 46re
stage 2 shiftkit
2800stall

Yeah lets keep it civil guys, everyone starts somewhere.

When i first got my truck i thought a Throttle body would give me 50+hp... boy was a wrong.. but now i know.

It is possible to get 350+ hp out of the 318, but it will take some work, you will be able to get 350 at the crank pretty easy, but putting it on the ground is the hard part.

Stock the 5.9 is 250hp at crank only about 180 gets to the ground with the crap 46re.

Right now with a 28% loss through the 46re i should have 420hp at the crank and close to 300rwhp.

and after the tranny rebuild im sure i freed up some more hp.

User you think heads/cam/blower will get you 600 on stock internals? What are you going to run 9-10psi MAX?

The bottom end and internals of these 360s and 318s are pretty much bullet proof, a stock motor can handle up to a 150-175 shot n2o easy, and 6-8psi like nothing.

Im probably going to run 8psi with 2.02/1.98 ported heads with a 210xc blower cam, vortec or powerdyne supercharger 8psi if i can get 10psi with a good tune from the SCT ill do it, but i would rather be safe and run 8#

The heads/cam setup is good for almost another 100hp, 8psi with the mods i have should get me close to a 150hp increase rwhp, thats 550, after tweaks and tunes from Hemifever with the Custom SCT Tune... im hoping to be in the upper 500s.

If i due happen to **** it up, just gives me an excuse to pull everything bore the block and stoke the bitch to a 6.7L 408.... then ill call it a day!

EDIT: Just noticed the 10# in my sig and yes that's MAX
