I have checked it both warm and cold. It is always reads at least a quart OVER, not under as rtdak seemed to believe. I let it drain completely and put no more than 5 quarts in.

i did the same when i switched over to all royal purple synthetic, i ran mine for about an hour driving around and it went down to the normal place on the dipstick
