Default Engine oil dipstick

So after an oil change (done at home, so it should be fine) in my 318, the dipstick is showing that it is at least a quart over, but I added the 5.0 quarts that my Haynes manual recommends.

If anyone would be so kind as to match up codes on the dipstick, I have one that reads 53020925

Did you change the filter also, cause that will hold about a quart.

did you fill up the filter when you changed it or did you install it dry?

If you mean just screwing in the filter, then dry it is.

That part number is correct according to the 1997 and 1998.
For whatever reason, 1999 shows part number 53021354 for 2WD, and 53021355 for 4WD. (In 2000, they changed to these part numbers on the 5.9L as well, but in 1999 and previous, it used 53020925)

Maybe check and make sure the metal part of the dipstick is fully seated in the part you actually pull on. It's been a while since I've checked the oil in my truck (been down for repairs), so I'm not sure if the metal part could "pull out."
