Default I messed up :( Please help

I have a 99 3.9, and I had some LEDs on my interior that I had on a switch wired straight to the battery, but they weren't on a fuse ( huge mistake I know). My idiot friend was messing around with the switch and wires and I guess touched the hot wire and ground together and the wires melted and caught fire basically. The entire wire melted all the way to the battery. I got the battery disconnected immediately. I have checked and made sure no other wires were touched and melted and there was none. The only thing that happened was a small hole was burned into my battery but I replaced it with a new one. But now the truck won't start and the gauges dont work. When you turn the key the gauges move a teeny teeny bit but the gas doesn't move at all. And the car turns over just fine but it won't start. Any ideas what's wrong? I've checked all my fuses and none are blown.

Check the CEL code first. Sound like you may have blown a few sensors, or something worse...

uh oh. might of fried the comp.? who knows. But wouldn't turn over with the comp not connected. Check the box under the hood for fuses/relays that might be burnt out.

Didn't see any fuses blown. Had a friend bring over his computer to check the code and it couldn't read it. It would detect it for like 5 seconds then nothing. Uh oh :/ Im thinking fried computer? How much would a replacement cost you guys think?

nah just get a junker computer, granted it will be hard as hell to find a 99 3.9 computer at a pick and pull but good luck, btw, make sure you get the same kind, i.e. security/non security and 4x4/4x2...

no kidding.

I've burned up 2 audio amplifiers before...trust me, fuses are your friend. 200 watt jensen started smoking then popped a 60 amper (on 8 gaugse cable) then 400 watt jensen popped a 100 amper on 4 guage.

I don't use jensen anything anymore.
