Default 4wd indicator light

my 99 sport 4x4 just had the indicator light quit functioning. The truck appears to still shift into 4 wheel drive correctly. Is this as simple as a dash bulb or is there something more likely in the electronic control causing this to not light. I thought I had read somewhere that the computer caused this to happen but now I cannot find that article to verify anything.

It could be the bulb in the instrument cluster or it could be the connection coming out of the tranny. Check those first.

Any tips as to where on the transfer case (or is it actually on the transmission) I would find that plug? I figure that would be the easiest to check first.

Sorry i ment the transfer case. There should be only one plug in the transfer case which is a sensor telling you if your in 4wd or not. Mine hosed up and i had to replace the sensor and the plug and that fixed the light.

There is actually 2 plugs on the transfer case. The one you want is on top of eat near the rear end of the transfer case itself. (not sure what the other plug is for)

not sure on the older ones, but on the newer models its from the switch to control the motor which engages the 4wd
