Unhappy Questions about 2001 r/t california emissions

Hello,
So I bought this great truck a couple months ago. its a 2001 dakota R/T with only 55,000 miles on it. Now the engine light comes on and codes say cats are bad. I went to a muffler shop and he tells me one has a rattle in it and that its a california emissions. He is unable to do anything for me and I need to go to dealer for the y pipe. I go to dealer OMG $1200.00 for this part. I was in tears since I dont understand anything about california emissions and I live in washington state.wouldnt you guess I was 10 days late for the warranty that would of fix this for free.
I was wondering if there is anything I can do is there a after market y pipe? Any suggestions at all would be great. I love the truck its was a replacement for my 2003 R/T that a drunk driver took away from me so Im willing to spend money but if there is away to save some that would be great too.

umm, just have the cats replaced, or just get an aftermarket exhaust system...

1200 for a ypipe is ridiculous.

Im guessing you have 2 res and 1 cat after the ypipe. 2 on the downpipes and 1 after the y comes together?

If so you can get the cats replaced, or have a ypipe made and just have bungs and sims put on to get the CEL to go away.

easiest thing to do is just replace the cats and o2s.
