Default Dakota window issue

My daughter is driving my 2001 quad cab. The other day she said the window fell down and will not work. Today i managed to find time and pulled the door panel off. It seems the cable is intact but is loose in the door> Off the track or what. Anyone help?

It's the window regulator. The cable is exposed when the regulator assembly is broken. It's a pretty common problem and is not hard to replace. I would guess a new one from the dealer is about $100 to maybe $120. It also includes a new window motor. It's not hard at all to replace.

Glad to know you got it fixed. I used to see at least 5 or 6 of those a week when I worked at a Jeep-Chrysler dealer. It's a really common problem.

Default Relacing the regulator

My son got mad & slammed the door on his 02 Dakota quad-cab. Seems like he broke the window regulator, the cable is hanging loose.
anyone know how hard it is to replace? I haven't done one in many many years. Any tricks I should know? The window motor is working fine. Any reason not to get one without a motor & reuse the current one?
Thanks!

I found that the cable guide at the bottom of the regulator snapped off. Looks like half a wheel. I am trying to find someone who has a burned up regulator who may give me that part. You cant buy it separately, even at the dealer. I may try to machine one at work.
If you look at the bottom of the inside of your door you may find the part.
If 01 Silver CC can get parts from old regulators maybe he can help us out.

Sorry, I can't get/don't have any old regulator parts. Best bet is at the dealer, or another guy on here recently found one from an online parts supplier.

Default aftermarket window regulator

It was me who found them online, but I ended up getting one cheaper, $75, at a local auto parts store. The one I got is made by Dorman which seems to be one of the better one listed at online sellers. I don't know where you are & what stores you have around, but I'm in NJ & Pep Boys & Strauss had them around here, but they wanted a little more for it. The dealers here wanted $280, that's crazy, no wonder the American auto industry is hurting!
Project99 I have that "half wheel" cable guide you're looking for from the one I just took off if you want it. I'd be glad to mail it to you. Let me know
