Poor Gas mileage & Loss of Power "Solved"
It's been awhile since i last posted. Just wanted to update everyone on my now old map sensor. Mileage has not faultered once I put a new one in. Everything is still great. Throttle response, mpg, overall drivability. All still the same as when i put the new MAP sensor back in 2009.
I replaced mine; I'm not going to say I got better MPG or anything because I did not; but what i did get is the transmission actually kick down when going up hills and it needs more power and when I slow down and turn or give very light throttle; before i had mash the gas to go into passing gear.

What people measure from a volt meter may be off. If, you ever opened one up, there is a gel coating over the sensor. If, that gets coated with carbon or harden due to age, it will feed the ecu wrong readings. Even though the sensor itself is good.
Before, i changed it out, i use to remember, doing about 3/4 trottle, you can see the amount of fuel being dumped into the motor, I could actually see the amount of exhaust gases from the rearview mirror.
After the map sensor, you couldn't see the gases anymore. Also, doing 70mph, my instant mpg gauge hovers around 18-20mpg. Before the map sensor, it would stay around 12-13mpg.
Got 140,000 miles and still runs like a new truck.

I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota 4x4 I have already changed my mapping sensor, o2 sensor, fan clutch and im only getting 6.5 mpg wjat else could possibly be causing that bad of fuel mileage? The computer? Catylac converter? Any awnsers will be greatly appreciated.
Welcome to the forums.
Is the Check engine light on? Do you have any codes? Try this:
Starting key off, turn it on (not start), then off, on, off, then leave it on.
You should see codes displayed in the odometer window.

To the ones that said the O2 sensor replacement was usually the wrong thing... I replaced mine cause my step-son said the bad smell would go away. Bad smell remains. Reading this thread and knowing I've never gotten above 18-19 mpg, seems a replacement is in order.
One thing this new-learner is curious about... is this sensor not cleanable? Or, hmmm, I remember reading it is a diaphragm... probably not cleanable if it has become hardened, etc.
My dealer wants $98 + tax.. told him, ~in Eddie Murphies voice~, "Get the *^*%&* OUT! This is the 4.7 liter and it should only be around $30." Two other places still showing above $50.. have to backtrack this thread to see the cheaper locations.
