Default 46RE transmission

Hi, new member here. Ok, I have a 2000 Dakota with the 46RE transmission, and here's my problem. During the 3-4 shift, it sometimes feels as if it's shifting out of 3rd gear entirely, and than into 4th. As if the truck is shifting into neutral. It doesn't happen all the time. I've dropped the pan, and installed a new filter. I've also installed transgo shift kit TFOD Jr. I've also installed all new electronics on the valve body. Can someone please help with this?

You may want to post this question in the 2nd Gen. Dakota forum. I will move it there.

your 3-4 clutch (not sure if it's a clutch or band, but same basic principle) is probably going. I think what your experiencing is slippage. Its one of the first signs on the clutch packs and bands wearing out, either from abuse, neglect or old age.

I"ve always loved mopars, but the quality of the trannys they were using, is disappointing. When it comes time to have it pulled out, I'm not having it rebuilt with dodge parts. I want to buy one from an independent company that has built one up with quality parts. Can anyone give recomondations ?

Something else that might be cheaper for me is a quality aftermarket rebuild kit. Again, any help would be great.

Even us Dodge lovers will face the facts and realize they could not build a decent tranny.

Dr Evil Transmissions. I was going to get one for my Ram, but the transmission never went (Go figure).

Here's the link.

Ask around on the 2ed gen ram section about these. I'm pretty sure a lot of guys over there swear by them. I've never heard anything bad about them either.

Also, cheap and reliable when it comes to transmissions don't really belong in the same sentence. I'd recommend you save your pennies and buy a Dr Evil transmission. There is another company that makes them to, but I can't remember the name.

Here are 2 tranny builders i trust...

http://www.apsprecision.com/ (i know alot of guys that use his trannys thay are sick)

and i got mine rebuilt at this place...

http://www.phoenixtrans.com/

They rebuilt it for 2500$

I had them put in the stage 2 shiftkit, Transgo Diesel kit, 2800stall (they make there own so they are cheaper) Rebuilt using all kelvar parts... and they offer a good warrenty on there work..

Good people to deal with. They walked me back to where they had it pulled apart and showed me everything they pulled out of it.. it was crazy what i saw.

But now.. every single shift is solid and it flash stalls to 2800rpm and brake stalls to 2600rpm which is perfect for now.

Kelvar parts will last alot longer and are lighter.

You might want to upgrade the soilinoids transgo sells rebuild kits for them that make them better then the OEM that dodge offerd with them.. they sale them on

http://www.oregonperformancetransmis...TRG-TF-GOV-SOL

i bought that also.
