Default Towing

My recently acquired 97 Dak Sport w/318 has the capacity to tow well. But it looks like it has a standard bumper (with a place for a trailer ball) that a bicycle trailer would rip off.

My inclination, one other issues are resolved, is to go to a welding shop and have them fab up the reinforcements.

But is there a bolt-on kit that would work.

Whayt I am likely to want to to is (1) a 19" inboard boat (an old slant 6 225 w/Volvo outdrive) or (2) car...with likely a rented trailer or 2-wheel dolly.

I have a Reese hitch and I love it. Bolts up to the frame fairly easily if you get the one made for a Dakota. If you get the universal one it is a little more labor intensive. They go on sale a lot too, just got one from Pep Boys for about $100.

I also have a Reese hitch. I had to drill holes in my frame to install it, but it wasn't that bad. Only took about an hour to install.

You could always jsut weld up your own hitch out of some square steel tubing and such. That's what my dad did for his truck. He even has removable camper tie downs on it.

I bought a custom fit hitch from Reese off of autozones website. It fit like a glove and nothing to drill! I highly recomend it. Think it was 139 bucks.
