Default Help! I need your opinion

So I bought this supercharger kit online for 1750

I was told it was a kit with no visible problems and should bolt on and run no problem.

Turns out the supercharger head unit when first attempted refused to spin, after numerous tries it had barely spun and made a noise as if a bearing was out.

I contacted ATI and went over the issue with them, they said it sounds as if it will need a rebuild and that will cost $800

Now I lost my job right after I bought this and have no money for rent let alone a supercharger rebuild

Now I took it in to a Racing shop and was told the same thing.

ATI called me back today and asked me to check to impeller for damages and behold, the blade was stuck on the side of the housing, so I wiggle the impeller off the wall it loosens and it spins but all the edges of the blades are chewed up and smashed down spinning a little bur obout a 1/5in off the edge

The man refuses to refund saying damage may have occured during shipping and says if fedex doesnt find shipping damage he will close the claim, I have the chance to escalate it because of the proof I have.

Should I just do that or wait for fedex, it seems clear to me the damage didnt occur during shipping.

Even if you escalate the issue and FedEx steps up afterwards, you can drop the claim against him. If you do nothing, sounds like you'll get screwed.

I'd do what it takes to get you money back. Paypal does side with the buyer more often than not. Get your money back!!

Yeah, claim through paypal. I sold some stuff on eBay that was working perfectly and the guy said it didn't work and was damaged, so he filed a claim and mailed it back and they made me refund him the money. Got the item back and it was still working perfectly. File the claim and do as they suggest with writing a detailed description of the problem and if it works out you might be able to just lose the shipping costs back to him. Oh, and spend the extra cash to mail it with some good tracking and insurance.

There's a few details missing from this story...

1) Before the unit was sold & shipped, he was told that I did not use this supercharger. I bought a used 99 R/T that came with the supercharger pre-installed. I don't need another performance toy and my 408ci stroker's CR & cam are not supercharger friendly, so the blower was removed and advertised for sale. When the supercharger was packed up, the impeller wheel was not seized up - that's the only claim I've ever made about the kit, aside from the fact that everything that was necessary for operation was included because as I took the parts off they went right into the shipping boxes. Because of its used condition this $4600+ kit was sold for $1750 shipped, so he saved over 65% off of MSRP.

2) After receiving the kit he claims that the impeller wheel is seized, but then he says it isn't. He says that he took it to some racing shop (no name provided, **** if I know if these guys are really experts or just some guys who stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night, or whether he really talked to anybody) and claims that the unit needs to be rebuilt. I tell the guy no problem - if he suspects that the head unit is damaged to please ship it to ATI (the real experts) and they will perform a complete diagnostic service for $85. If the unit got damaged during shipping, I'd be happy to file a claim with FedEx, the package was fully insured. Rather than figure out what's really going on with this kit, he tells me no - he doesn't want to ship it to ATI, he just wants a refund. At this point there's no way I'm going to just take back the kit as-is and blindly give the guy a full refund - if the unit has sustained damage then we need to have it properly processed by ATI and/or FedEx first, but that's not the way this guy wants to operate.

3) After this guy said that the unit was damaged I contacted ATI and what they told me doesn't jive with this guy's story. They said that they don't have a fixed rebuild fee so they can't give quotes of this nature over the telephone - they said that people are instructed to ship in the head unit and they will diagnose it for $85. If repairs are needed then you are only charged for the actual damaged parts & labor, and the $85 diagnostic fee is absorbed into that cost. I asked him to ship the unit to ATI for a proper examination and he has basically refused.

IMHO nothing's been misrepresented, and trying to drag this out into a public forum is total bull****, just as I think it was bull**** for you to open a paypal claim because you didn't hear back from me in 24 hours during a major holiday weekend. I'm sorry you supposedly lost your job, but it's not my responsibility to put money back into your pocket without having any questions or concerns. Every single time I've asked you to have the head unit examined by a real professional you've given me a different story and a new demand for an "as-is" refund.

Edit: I should also point out that this thread was created two days after the warranty claim was started with FedEx (per his request), on the day that it was scheduled to be picked up and inspected for damage.
