The front ones are an oversized 6 1/2 inch. The rear side panel speakers are a 5 1/4 inch. Your guy will need adapter plates for the front speakers, or he can separate the original speaker from its mounting bracket to use it to mount the new ones in. It helps but is not absolutely necessary to have an adapter plate for the rear speakers too. It makes it easier to mount the new ones in, provides a better seal and gives better sound. If he wants he can make his own mounting plates out of medium density fiberboard (MDF). Half inch for the front and quarter inch for the rears. MDF is cheap at Home Depot, it's stocked in the shelves section.

You can get new speakers at Walmart cheap (Pioneer, which is a good speaker for the price) or you can get them at Best Buy or at any good independent car audio store. You would get better service from a car audio shop or at Best Buy. You can order from Crutchfield or buy off of Ebay if you have time to wait for delivery. www.crutchfield.com has a good fit guide to help you select the right size speakers, but pretty much any 6 1/2 and 5 1/4 will do fine.

Another good option would be to give him a Best Buy gift card or a prepaid Visa gift card and he can pick the speakers he likes. Often Best Buy will offer free or reduced price installation, or a buy one pair of speakers and get one pair half price deal. If you buy from an independent car audio store, they should offer installation too. If you want to get speakers and wrap them up as a present, just keep the receipt in case there's a problem and he needs to exchange them. If you buy the speakers for him and he plans on doing the installation himself, be sure to get the speaker connector harnesses for his truck. They make it a lot easier to connect the new speakers to the existing speaker wires in the truck.

crutchfield.com is the way to go My dad has bought stuff from there since he bought his 78 camaro in 78. Put a radio and speakers in my truck back in jan from there and they were a great price and are awesome. My front 2 I got from my bro in law from his dak which are Alpine SPS-600 only used for a month. Then for my rear I have the Alpine SPS-500 from crutchfield they are great and if im driving around town I normally rock out(vol on 25-30 lol)which is every day so they are still doing great.
