Best muffler for a 3.9
I love my exhaust but its going to rust out real soon and I just want a change anyways
Im going to keep my high flo cat and just replace the muffler. I am planning to put a turn down right off the muff, my question is if I go with a single in and dual out will it be louder/better sound or just a waste? And what size inlet and outlet should I be looking for?
And of course which muff is best for me, flowmaster Im sure is best but which one? I dont want it to sound ricey or to be just obnoxiously loud. If it isnt going to sound good I dont want to do it...

IMO Aero Turbine is the best muffler out there. I replaced my 40 series with one and couldn't be happier and shortly after I had 2 friends replace their 40 series (one on a 4.0 ranger, the other on a 22re yota) and all of our rigs sound and perform better. I'm over Flowmaster, I've got an AT muffler in the mail as I speak to replace the 40 series on my B2. I would avoid the dump nder the truck, you're just adding corrosive gasses to the underside of the truck and it sounds like *** IMO.
I used to think Flowmasters were the best but have come to realize there are better choices out there. Magnaflow has a very smooth sounding exhaust which is good on a v6 to help it not sound "ricey"
And actually on Trucks I think it was they were saying its not good to have it dumped out underneath a truck. Plus it will result in a lot more resonance in the cab. SI/SO will work fine, the DO is basically for looks it won't improve performance any more than a SO will. I was going to go DO with mine but decided I'm just going SO, it will be even cheaper that way and sound pretty much the same.
EDIT: Post #1000 woo!

IMO magnaflow is the way to go. Everyone on hear will like something different. The guy down from me has a 3.9 5 speed dak with dual flowmaster(not sure which one) At a idle it sounds good but once he gets the rpms high it sounds like a ricer maybe its just me ive been around v8s all my life and think a exhaust should have a nice deep tone. There is tons of clips on youtube of guys with exhausts on there 3.9s I would browse around there before you make a final decision. If it was me I wouldnt do the dump under the truck.
ha.. i love my magnaflow on my dakota. definitely makes that v6 sing such a sweet tune. no heavy drone in the cab, but enough voice to be heard. far from a glorified glass pack. and im not just saying it cause i invested in one. just speaking about my experience with one for over a year now.
in all honesty, comming from someone that owns a 3.9 and has tried for years and years to make it sound and perform acceptable.... just quit. Its not worth the money unless you have alot of money to burn. Just find a muffler thats less restrictive than the stock muffler for better performance but is still quiet, its going to sound like a v6 no matter what you do.
