Question New to Dakota Scene...

Been a d50 guy for some years, so hello to all here...

I have 2 questions about my 4.7 v8 engine... I have a dakota 2000, 4x4 5speed 4.7, I just bought used. it has 126k miles.

My question is for the techs out there,
I read the forums from dusk to dawn several weeks worth lately, before I bought the truck. it reads low oil pressure when warmed up, (which means more than just idleing for up to 30 minutes in 90+ weather we're having.) It is doing this only after driving for a few miles like over 50 mph. Driving in town (30 mph or so for 30 minutes) doesnt seem to make it happen.

I might have noticed it before buying but, didn't take it on highway and it was cheap and clean enough, anyhow I can face the music I still probably bought it good enough...

I had read that the sending units are notorious. Well I changed it out. went a few days of not really driving much, just in town (on pretty much idle). Took off to work the other day, come to the almost stop & turn intersection (no traffic so you usually dont completely stop out here where nobody lives anyhow), But to my amazment the guage hits 0, check engine chimes, A/C shuts off (the compressor).

Now im stumped. oil is good, but dirty so I put in 15/40 figuring with age and new warmer climate 15 be better. still does it but not quite as easily to make happen, you have to force the engine RPMs to go under 500.
what is most likely the prob?

Question 2:
Within driving distance, a person is selling a 2006 - 2008 engine, has everything on it at the moment including ac, has 10k miles on it. What do I have to do to that engine to put it in my truck (I am sure the electronics might have changed over the years?)

Help Please!

Thanks! -Sting32

I to have a 2000 dakota with a 4.7
1ST Q check your oil cap see if it has build up. when u changed oil did any sludge come out? if so take out motor mounts. tran bolts. jack both of those up. take off oil pan. take off oil pick up tube and clean screen.
this is where it gets fun if u have a lot of build up. take a pressure washer and take the vaulve covers off and blow it all out. bottom side u can use a air chuck and blow it out. put every thing back. use some cheap oil. drive it for a few hours then take off oil pick up tube again check screen. if pan and screen r clean put some good oil n it and drive it.
2ND Q that 2006 or 08 wont work unless you do some major work.
rebuilt long block.. i have found around 2.400

I figured that was what you meant, I had a person (not on the boards) suggest to me it could be a pressure relief valve in or near the oil pump. again we're not as familiar with these newer overhead cam engines.

Hey when I changed the oil it was dirty but I dont see sludge, cap is clean as well. I have reason to believe the kid got this beyotch stuck and might over revved it (just a wild guess) trying to get out? it has nerf bars on it and they are bent up a bit in the middle, and there seems to be sand in AC condensor (more than I would think normal) making me logically think he had to be pulled out by fellow 4x4 or something that spun tires and threw sand... Then again I could be jumping to conclusions, I just feel sick that my sending unit didnt fix the apparent problem. this weekend it will have a manual guage put on it, to monitor the situation.
