Default Engine corrosion, help!

Got a 01 Dakota with 4.7 engine. Been running warm off and on for few days. Tried new thermostat; ran hot again; took off water pump and found corroded away place directly behind water pump. Any body run into this problem? How can it be repaired? Thanks!

If you mean in the coolant passages then you can try a flush of your coolant... Hopefully it was something that was just accidentally dropped into the coolant the last time someone put some in... But if your engine is really corroding then you can pretty much rebuild it now or rebuild it later. I'd go for later, personally.

If not a coolant passage or a sealing surface then I wouldn't worry about it. This is what happens to iron engines.
