Default 2001 dodge dakota four cylinder

My Dad has a 2001 dodge dakota gasoline four cylinder-29,000 miles with a manual trans-normally a good runner not much use, just around his farm and around town.

Went to start today after running yesterday and no go. Good turn over-no fire. No fuel smell, topped off with fuel and still no go. Took the breather off and put gas directly into carb-turned over, fired and ran until that fuel burned out, then died.

Thinking fuel pump or maybe electronics?

Short weekend visiting-would like to get him sorted out before we leave.

Any help is appreciated-

Thank you-

Yes, I know, just pointing out the fact that cars haven't been carbed in over 20 years...

...great point...how about a solution-since you understood to begin with, how about a little productive insight...

Hi Raomin...thought of fuel filter and will see if we can get one tomorrow-it started and ran fine yesterday and absolutely no fire today except with fuel into intake...

Thanks for the suggestion-

checked the relay-is good-swapped out with others on the board. fuse for fuel is not called out as such so not sure if there is one.

trying to find info on a fuel filter-cannot find information on one, i am wondering if imbedded in pump assembly...if someone has a diagram pdf that may be helpful-

thanks again

Fuel filter is In tank.

Is the fuel pump running in the first place? When you turn the key to the on position, but don't try to start it, can you hear the fuel pump priming? If you don't hear a high pitched whine, then the pump has failed.

If you do hear the whine, check the fuel pressure after one prime, and then max fuel pressure.
