Default 2001 Dakota Towing questions

I have a 2001 dakota 2wd 4.7 V8. i was wondering if anybody does a lot of towing with this truck and what you tow. I am looking to tow an enclosed trailer with a racecar, but am afraid the truck may not be able to handle it. I think the towing capacity said 6100 lbs. any advice or info anybody can give me on this would be great. thanks

use a Class III hitch and make sure you have trailer brakes! I've pulled a tad over 5500 with my 02 4.7 2wd and yeah, i could deff tell it was back there and the MPG wasnt so good, but it made it through.

i regularly tow a stock trailer with horses, my best advice, trailer brakes... sliding through intersections isnt much fun... the only bad thing about yours is you will have alot of wind drag... i usually keep my at 65 while towing, keeps it below 3k rpm...

I would drop it down to 55mph. Depending on how far you need to tow it, less than an hour away I would tow at 55. Farther than that I would say 65.
