Default More electrical...

Past couple days I've noticed my ABS and BRAKE light would come on for a second when I started the truck (after all the other lights go off after initial start up).

Today though they stayed on for a minute. Then went out, came back on, and out again. So after I got back to school I let the truck sit for a while went back out and again its on and off and on again type deal. Also noticed the Air bag light came on for a second.

So I'm thinking loose connection? Went over a speed bump and the lights came back on for a second. May have been coincendental. Where would I look for a connection involving the emergency brake light and ABS light? Or if it's not a connection what could it be?

It was raining today and hope that doesn't have anything to do with it... First time I've driven in the rain since this little issue began.

Another note: Over the summer my CTM was replaced.

it could just be the rain but i would check the connection at the rear axle. i had that same problem this past summer without the rain of course and when i looked the i found that the wires was melted that goes to the sensor

Makes sense, both the ABS and Emergency brake go there...

Also I noticed that when this happens the speedo reads 0.

Tomorrow I'll look around the rear axle and see if something is loose.

The speedo, ABS, and emergency brake all go to the rear axle in some way so Im thinking it must be something there. I will have to look tomorrow.

Yeah, most 2nd gen Dak-Durs have only rear wheel antilock brakes, so the only wheel speed sensor on the truck is the one in the diff. The ABS and E-brake lights will come on together in the event of a ABS fault, and the PCM uses the same sensor for the speedo. Its goofy, but its Dodge haha

Haha, no worries. Its probably one of the easier things to do. The sensor just goes into the top of the diff, kinda like a cam or crank sensor. One bolt, lots of prying, but no headache.

Little bit of an update...

Drove it today and now the ABS light & Brake light stay light up and the speedo reads 0 all the time. So I would say yeah of course its the speed sensor but a couple things complex me...

It stalls when coming to a stop. Doesn't matter if it's in neutral or in gear and the clutch is in, it will stall when coming to a stop. Why would the sensor effect this?

And the air bag light comes on and stays on with the ABS and brake light. Again what does this have to do with the speed sensor?

I did get a CEL today. P500 which sure enough is VSS - Vehicle Speed Sensor malfunction.

So I guess I might as well replace the Sensor seeing it must be a problem. I'll probably go down to napa later...
