Default ok im stumped

I just replaced my fan clutch because i had alittle play in the assembly. so i installed it and everything went smoothly. I started it up and drove it around the block and it was roaring. i figured it was just because it was cold and the fluid needed time to heat up. I went to the store and the entire time it still roared big time. why is it still doing this? Thanks guys. sorry i havent been here in so long. soooo much school....

Did you by chance get a fan clutch from Autozone or something like that? It has been my experience that they try to push the "non-thermal" fan clutches and if thats what you bought, thats why it roars. The only ones I have had good luck with are dealership clutches, but I couldn't tell you why.

Yeah i actually bought from advance auto parts for like 40 bucks. But i did notice on the front side of the clutch there was a little coil. I thought that was to measure the temp or something like that...

I know that the operation is the same (in theory...) but I put a few aftermarket fan clutches on before because its a pretty big price difference between aftermarket and MOPAR, but they always seem to do the same thing.

I need to change mine - it tends to run alittle warm after it idles for awhile. The OE clutch is around 110, which is why most people go the other way. I wouldn't put one on mine unless it was OE tho.

So whats the difference in the oe clutch and the aftermarket from advance? How does the cheap one work compared to the stock clutch from the dealer?

I can only attribute it to differences in manufacturing. I can't really explain why they are like that, but its not the first time I have heard of your problem with aftermarket fan clutches. I know the price difference is pretty extreme, but I wouldn't recommend something that I wouldn't do myself.

I just replaced the fan clutch on my truck a couple of months ago, and was having the same problem. I drove it around for a month with the roaring, because I thought it just might need time to loosen up. I went back to napa where I bought it, and the guy used my vin number to find another fan clutch that wasn't listed in his computer. The second fan clutch is working as it should.

Yeah that's what I think I'm going to do is take it back to them and explain what is going on. Did you end up shelling out the 110 bucks for the second one?
