Default Cold start trouble

Hey guys.

I've got an 02' Dakota quad with the 4.7 and after sitting for a while it takes 15-20 seconds of cranking to fire up. Is there some kind of check valve in the fuel system that may cause leakdown while it sits? checked all fuel lines and there are no leaks/cracks. It only takes 1-2 hours before I get the starting problem.

Thanks for any help/ideas

Can you hear the fuel pump energizing when you turn the key on?

yes, and cycling the key to prime the fuel system does not seem to help.

my 98 dak has been doing the same but its only on cold days and after about 2 days of not driving and its only like 3-5 sec to start after that its fine. Pump might be on its way out.

I'm having a hard time with the fuel pump idea - when it does finally start it runs like a dream and when I scan it and view live data everything seems to be within spec. My scanner will not get readings during startup - is there one that will? Maybe an ignition related issue that could cause the problem?

Thanks guys.

Well only reason I said fuel pump is they all have their own way of going out I was thinking it might be slowly going out then after movement and vibrations it will bring itself back to life but I doubt thats what is really going on
