Default Drum brakes

I need to do my back brakes. They're shot. But I've never rebuilt a rear brake assembly before. Is it more difficult then doing disk brakes? I've heard it is? With the shop manual should it be a straightforward task? Who here has done them before?

Thanks.

It's not hard, but you have to be very patient and have some special tools IIRC..i know it made things alot easier when we did the ones on our camaro, my dad had all the special tools and it took about 20 minutes per side (we also had to change the piston because it was leaking).

Its a PITA but not hard. I did not have the special tools but I did need my friend to help with the freakin nail things (you know what I mean ). Id just grab the haynes and go to napa or something and make sure you ask for a COMPLETE spring/hardware kit. Be patient and only start to drink when your very frustrated lol

I was too. I have no patience but it really is not that hard. Do one at a time so you can look at the other side and get a hayne or something so you have a step by step guide. Its really not that bad.

What I did was take a picture of everything with the tire & wheel off.
I enlarged it on my computer and printed it out. Worked great when
it came time to put everything back together. (Rear brakes are a pain).

go to autozone, they have instructional DVD's. the guy at that works there said they were good enough to teach his mother how to do a brake job.

Yeah I did mine not to long ago. Except when I put everything back together the star screw doesn't contact the metal tab the holds the adjustment. So basically I have no rear brakes. And my parking brake won't hold and when I let the parking brake pedal up the shoes are still contacting the drum and I can't move. I'm so lost. Sorry to hijack the thread but I just can't figure it out

Its pretty easy to do. It will take you a little time to complete since its your first time but as long as you take pics of it and make sure you can see how everything is my first time took me about a 1 and 1/2 hrs to complete last time I did it on my friends dak it took me about 45 min to complete hardest part is trying to get the drum off that will take a little time but nothing a little pounding and big flathead screw driver cant fix

Ok then, I'll probably tackle it myself over Thanksgiving break... I'm way too cheap to let someone else do it lol. Plus I like working on my truck and figuring things out i've never done...
