My friend has a 2000 dakota just like my dakota. Both are crew cab trucks and both have the 4.7. But there are some diffrences. First mine is a sport modle so i have the painted grill and front (will trade for crome if any one is interested) but the big thing i noticed is his truck doesnt have a 2WD setting . where my truck says 2 WD his truck says 4WD and there is no selection for 2 WD any where. There are 4 selections there N, 4LO, 4WD, and one other i cant remeber what it said but its not 2WD. Whats going on here.

 

The NV242 full time transfer case was optional on the 2nd gens (not on V6 models though). I am not sure if that started when they were introduced in '97 or if that was brought on later but it sounds like he has the NV242. Allpar's review of the 2000 Dakota mentions it so it was certainly available on his.

 

Thanks for the info. When he told me his was AWD i didnt know if he was making a mistake or not. Then when i looked at it i was kind of shocked to be truthfull. Any idea what kind of fuel milage the NV242 trucks get vs the normal 4x4 trucks.
