2003 4.7 V8 Dakota Quad cab, how can I get better MPG?
I am done with this thread, but I am not saying you guys are right.

My poor 1997 Ram 5.2L V-8 gets 12.5 MPG on average, and I drive it every single day and use it every single day. People do not buy trucks for their great MPG's, but rather Safety/Use.
I meant to add in a long while back about that ford that Madison posted- That has been around forever. You know what sane people that don't have a need to butcher their trucks call that cover? AN SUV!

I bought a car for 600 dollars, put 300 dollars into it, and it gets 48MPG highway, and 45 or so city. When gas goes back up to 4 dollars a gallon, it will pay me to drive it. The insurance/maintenance is even paid for by gas savings because it does so good.
Have a good day getting 15 mpg guys, I have told you what you need to do, you haven't listened and gone as far as to mock me. If you want better gas mileage in a truck, you need less aerodynamic drag.
Swap in a diesel if it is bugging you that much.

No one here is complaining about mpg. I don't ever want to here someone complaining about gas milage that owns a truck. Its one thing to ask how to make it better because there is no sense in getting outrangeously poor milage if you can do better.
And I like how you said your whole family voted for McCain but never mentioned your own vote... if you did vote for him, thats one thing I'll give you credit for. At least you have some correct politcal views... but thats a whole nother topic we're not getting into.
And just out of curosity, what kind of car do you have that gets 48 mpg? Diesel?

What's wrong with an SUV? Don't most SUVs that are "brothers" of the trucks get the same/worse gas mileage? Oh, I agreed with your post up until the "safety" part.

Good for you for buying an itsy bitsy little car. I do hope that you never find yourself in a wreck as there is a good chance you wouldn't walk away from one in a little car like that. I kind of like the idea that I know that if I ever find myself in a wreck that I'm not in a little go cart/ sardine can type car.

noone here is bugged by bad gas mileage, and for the record you are safer surround by 2.5 tons of steel and sheet metal than by a little civic ill find videos later
Correct political views? Pull your head out! No one has the right to say whose view is right, and whose is wrong. You are allowed to have a different view, and thats what makes this country great.

The title is "How can I get better gas mileage" Again I am not complaining as mentioned, I just want to know if there is anything I can do to make it better, I am now averaging 14.3 MPG, i ahve pushed 14.4, so far all i ahve done is put the soft tonaeu cover on that came with the truck and coasted alot and driven the speed limit tying to keep my RPMS below 2. someone was saying tire pressure is a big thing, were they suggesting to put more air in the tire then is called for on the writing on the tire or just make sure its at max capacity as indicated on the tire?
I have filled up 2 times now since I received the truck form my brother, and my math checks out based to the onboard computer, (total miles traveled on tank / Amount put in tank) and I fill it up until I get the first click so its always the same amount (generally).
Many people are mentioning that my mileage may be off, how can I clock if what my on board computer says is a mile is exactly a mile, the only thing I can think of is go on the highway, and once I hit a mile marker reset the on board computer? any other ideas?
Will also continue to research the K&N, so many people support them and then so many say it is awful, its hard to tell which side is right!
