My tag on the inner door says P215/75R15 so definitely not the same thing. That's pretty much a 28" x 8.5" 
That's the crappy part about buying a used truck, takes awhile to figure out what all has been done to the truck by past owners.
Going back to the original point of this thread, I would use this site: http://www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html for comparing two different tire sizes. Just enter the sizes for tire A and tire B and click the button for Compare A to B and then hit submit.
