Default tranny fluid level?

just changed the fluid/filter. not hard just messy. in both my anual and hayes it says the level should be in the xxxxx hashmarks. my dipstick only has two holes on top and two near bottom about 2" apart. should i assume the level should be between the two sets of holes? right now its a little above the 2nd hole (counting from bottom of stick). and i drove it, parked on level ground, shifted through all gears, left in neutral, then checked.

Yes it is very messy. Yes the dots are the level. Bottom is when you want to add more. Top is when it is full. You want to have it more towards the top. So slightly above the top line is slightly overfilled. If it is only slightly it should be okay.

If you have a 4.7 with a 45rfe transmission it takes about 6-6.5 qts of tranny fluid. That what the service tech at dodge told me.
