Question 4.7 Ram for the wife????

Hey yall, This may be better suited for the Ram pages but I do more moving around in here so this is where I'm posting it 1st. I have Been looking for a Truck for my wife so I can have mine back, (LOL). She Likes my Dak and I've been looking for one for her but she Would really prefer a manual trans and those are pretty rare. Yesterday we were out looking around and stumbles accross a 2002 Ram 4.7 with a 5 speed. It's a 4 door but doesn't seem quite as big as some so I don't think it is the Mega Cab or whatever. Everything about this truck was perfect, Cloth seats, vinly floors, 2wd, tilt, cruise, manual windows and locks, everything she wants in her truck. What gives me pause is that tiny little 4.7. I am an experienced mechanic and all and reliability / maintenance isn't the issue. What i'm wondering about is wether or not that engine is going to be strong enough to Pull that big a$$ truck around well enough to get out of it's own way. We are both somewhat aggressive drivers and we like our stuff to have some *****. I know some Daks came with this engine and am interested in some opinions as to how this thing is going to act in the real world for someone who can actualy "DRIVE" instead of most the Sheep out there that merely operate a vehicle. What do you think?

Honestly, I think the 4.7 is too small for the Ram. My 4.7 is just right. Meaning its got enough to make up so steep grades in 5th gear (3:55s) but its not like its got a whole lot left. I think when put in a truck of that size it would be too small. It makes decent power in a midsize truck, but in a full size, I don't think it would be enough.

Unless the 4.7 put in the Ram is the HO version... you should check up on it. Im not familar with the Rams as much.

There is a lot different. There is a whole list somewhere, I forget where. I think they are pushing 265 - 270 horse and 325 lbs of torque. But Im not sure if it went in the Rams or not. Might have not been around yet...

My friends father has a 4 door ram 4.7 and it has plenty of power to pull the truck around. You have to remember a durango weighs about 4800lbs a 2wd ram quad cab about 4900lbs the durango comes with 4.7 and moves just fine.

Thats good to know. I've never driven a durango or Ram with a 4.7. I just figured that it has decent power for my Dakota, so with the added ~1k lbs, it would become a little too under powered.

I've raced him in my truck and it's no competition against my 5.9 but it's decent. I would say you could compare it to a 08 bone stock civic speed wise. Because he put the truck up against a kid in one and neither of them could pull on eachother.

If it can't keep up to your 16 sec truck, then how "decent" can it be?

Your intake gains you 4 or 5 hp and depending on your exhaust you may not gain any...

Not to be a dick or anything. Just trying to point out, that if a 4.7 ram can't keep up QC dakota, it can't be too great.
