Default 2000 Dakota Club Cab SLT Brake lights will not turn off

Ok I will try to make this short and simple. A few days ago I shut my car off, turned off lights and noticed my exterior brake lights and cab light were not off. I did make sure everything was turned off, also kept pumping and lifting on brake pedal. So then I disconnected the battery. Today I reconnected the battery and lights are still on.

Any ideas I don't wanna have to get screwed by a mechanic.

Coincidentally while it rained one of my fog lights collected some water in the lamp and I did use my lights. Could this have something to do with it?

well if your brake lights wont turn off, that can only mean you have a short to power somewhere. do you have a trailer light plug in? you could have a problem there. i dont think the fog lights would have anything to do with it.

I doubt the rain in the fog lights caused the problem. More likely the brake light switch is bad. A new one should not cost too much. I'd replace the switch first, unless there are more obvious problems, maybe with trailer wiring like Tmcnally said.

thanks for all the help guys, I actually just pulled out the brake light fuse, dusted it off and the lights were off when i placed the fuse back in. Works fine now, I don't know if it solved the whole problem or what ha ha. but it works!
